FAQ

What prep work do I have to do before you install?

All personal items such as pictures, photos, family memorabilia, and glassware must be removed from the work area by the customer.

What are the power requirements?

Ideally, a 220v/20amp dedicated circuit is required. Alternatively a 120v Step/ up transformer can be utilized.

Why can’t this be installed before flooring or drywall is finished?

The top lip/perimeter on the insert located between bottom ceiling and top floor needs to sit on top finished floor.

Why does the shaft door have to be 36” wide centered on the lift?

This allows the door to open a full 90 degrees for maximum accessibility.

Why do I have to leave a sidewall off the downstairs shaft?

This allows for the assembled cab to be installed in the hoist way between the guide rails. Alternatively allow for a 36inchx96inch door to be fitted for front access to install.

Can the lift be modified or the color changed?

Yes. Most models of Stiltz can be shortened by up to 4 inches for additional space. There are no options on the colors provided by the manufacturer.

Why can’t the floor be flush?

The floor is flush upstairs but owing to the thickness of the floor and the safety pan under the lift floor allow for a 3 inch step. Alternatively a pit can be built on the lower level for a flush entry/exit (Typically only relevant if installing a shaft on lower level).

What type of support do I need below or above the Stiltz rails?

The guide rails need solid backing to attach to , as there will be some load applied both up and down.  We recommend that 2”x12” or 2”x10” blocks be added, laying flat between the joists, just above the drywall ceiling or below a plywood subfloor.

How much room will you need to store and assemble during the install?

The install team will need about half of the space of a two car garage to lay out parts and prepare the components.

Why can’t the lid be finished by you with the ¾” oak flooring that I have left over?

The lid can only accept flooring up to a maximum of 3/8”, so ¾” would not be flush with the existing floor and could be a trip hazard.
